What are the purchase limits for cannabis in New Jersey?
According to New Jersey’s adult-use cannabis regulations, dispensaries are allowed to sell you up to the equivalent of 28.35 grams or 1 ounce of usable cannabis in each transaction. That means up to:
- 28.35 grams (1 ounce) of dried flower, or
- 4 grams of solid cannabis concentrates or resin, or the equivalent of 4 grams of concentrate in liquid form (solution in milliliters) or
- 4 grams of vaporized formulations like what’s in vape carts or
- 1,000 mg of multiple ingestible cannabis-infused products, or
- The equivalent of 1 ounce in any combination of products.
What do I need to bring with me to the dispensary?
When visiting Queen City or any NJ cannabis dispensary, you must bring a valid, non-expired, government-issued ID proving you are of legal age (21) to purchase cannabis products in the state. This is mandatory to comply with state regulations. You’ll show your ID at the front desk when you check in at Queen City before you enter the dispensary itself. Applicable forms of identification include:
- Your driver’s license, issued by NJ or any other state or U.S. territory
- A non-driver ID issued by NJ or any other state
Can You Use Your Passport at a Dispensary?

Do I need a card to shop at a recreational dispensary in New Jersey?
You do not need a card to shop at a recreational dispensary in New Jersey. You only need a card to shop for medical cannabis. Queen City is an adult-use dispensary, meaning anyone 21 or older can buy cannabis from us if they show a valid ID at check-in.
Is Queen City a smoke shop or a licensed dispensary?
Queen City is a licensed adult-use cannabis dispensary, not a smoke shop or vape shop. In New Jersey, only businesses licensed by the Cannabis Regulatory Commission can legally sell THC products like flower, pre-rolls, vapes, and edibles. Smoke shops can legally sell glass, papers, batteries, and some hemp-derived products, but they can’t sell state-regulated cannabis, and their products aren’t held to New Jersey’s testing standards. Everything on our shelves is cannabis grown, processed, and lab-tested in New Jersey, and we carry accessories too, so you can pick up your grinder, papers, and batteries in the same trip.
Where can I consume my cannabis in New Jersey?
You can enjoy your cannabis products in a private space in New Jersey, such as your own home or a friend’s home. But that doesn’t mean it’s legal to light up in all places. For example, if you rent, your landlord may not allow cannabis consumption.
What towns in New Jersey opted in for cannabis?
Plainfield, NJ, our hometown, is one of approximately 90 municipalities that “opted in” to allow cannabis businesses like dispensaries in their towns. Plainfield is one of only four towns in Union County that opted in when voters legalized cannabis in November 2020.
Are edibles legal in New Jersey?
In short, yes. While legal-infused product categories in NJ used to include just tinctures, syringes, lozenges, and soft chews like gummies, the New Jersey Cannabis Regulatory Commission (CRC) now allows traditional forms of edibles, including infused chocolates and baked goods like brownies.
How much is the NJ weed tax on recreational adult-use cannabis?
While prices will vary by location and product, all cannabis transactions are subject to the New Jersey sales tax of 6.625%. Municipalities in New Jersey may also charge a Local Cannabis Transfer Tax of up to 2% on recreational cannabis sales. The city of Plainfield charges this 1% tax.

Yes! At Queen City, you can order online and pick up in-store. Pre-ordering your products before your visit allows you to browse the menu, make your selections, and pick up your products when you arrive. You’ll get an email or text alert from us (your choice) when your order is ready for pickup. It’s a convenient way to save time and reserve the specific strains and products you want to buy.

How can I pay for my cannabis purchase at Queen City?

Does Queen City deliver cannabis in New Jersey?
Queen City does not offer cannabis delivery, we’re a pickup-only dispensary. Delivery is legal in New Jersey, but only dispensaries that hold a delivery endorsement from the Cannabis Regulatory Commission can offer it, and unlicensed delivery services are illegal (and unsafe, their products aren’t state-tested). The fastest way to get your order from Queen City is to shop our menu online and pick it up in our in-store pickup lane, or place your order on a kiosk when you walk in. Most pickup orders are ready in minutes.

Can I use my New Jersey medical marijuana card at Queen City?
Yes, bring it and save 10% on every purchase. Queen City is an adult-use dispensary, so your order is rung up as a recreational sale: adult-use purchase limits and New Jersey sales tax apply, and you’ll still need a valid, unexpired government-issued photo ID showing you’re 21 or older. The higher 30-day purchase limits and the medical sales-tax exemption are only available at licensed medical dispensaries. What central New Jersey towns is Queen City near?
Queen City is in Plainfield, a 5–20 minute drive from most of central New Jersey. We’re closest to South Plainfield, North Plainfield, Scotch Plains, Fanwood, Dunellen, Green Brook, and Watchung, and about 15–20 minutes from Westfield, Edison, Piscataway, Cranford, Middlesex, Warren, and Rahway. Because many surrounding towns opted out of hosting cannabis businesses, Queen City is the closest licensed dispensary for a lot of Union, Middlesex, and Somerset County neighborhoods.
