Queen City Year in Review: Our Community Impact in 2024

Queen City team huddling together in unity inside their Plainfield dispensary, celebrating a year of community impact and connection.

What a memorable year it’s been at Queen City! From community-driven initiatives to educational talks, we’ve had the honor of supporting our local Plainfield family in so many ways. Each event brought new faces, connections, and countless moments of joy. Let’s take a look back at some of the highlights that made this year truly special:

Uplifting the community

Queen City has been actively involved in various initiatives throughout the year to create positive impact in the neighborhood. Below are some of the highlights from our efforts in giving back and fostering knowledge.

Legal cannabis talk with JCC of Scotch Plains

On January 30th,  we had the pleasure of hosting a lively and informative discussion on legal cannabis at Queen City with the Jewish Community Center (JCC) of Scotch Plains. The crowd was full of engaged, curious individuals eager to learn more about how cannabis can support wellness, guiding enriching conversation on everything from the basics of cannabis to its potential therapeutic applications.

We’re thrilled to participate in this conversation and look forward to hosting more educational chats like this to help further spread knowledge and understanding about the evolving industry.

Queens Supporting Queens clothing drive

In recognition of Women’s History Month, Queen City teamed up with Plainfield community advocate Holistic Haven for a clothing drive to support women undergoing transitional periods in their lives. Running from March 8th to March 28th, the drive collected gently used women’s clothing to help those undergoing transitional periods in their lives. Known for her impactful work in and around Plainfield, Heavan led the initiative to ensure the donations would directly benefit women who needed them most.

Thanks to the generosity of our neighbors, 40 bags of clothing were collected for this effort!

Juneteenth Freedom Fest Block Party

On Juneteenth (June 19th), we had the honor of participating in the Freedom Fest Block Party hosted by the City of Plainfield. We came together to reflect, celebrate, and honor this significant day in American history.

The event was a vibrant celebration of freedom, culture, and unity, with local vendors, food, music, and activities that brought our community together in meaningful ways. It was an inspiring day filled with laughter, learning, and a deep sense of pride, and we’re grateful to everyone who came out to celebrate with us — and, of course, to our partners for making it such a memorable occasion.

Town cleanup

We rolled up our sleeves and got our hands dirty for a great cause on May 15th. As part of our ongoing commitment to supporting our city all year round, we joined forces with local citizens to clean up Plainfield, tackling the downtown area near the train station. Together, we collected several full bags of trash, making a noticeable impact on the neighborhood.

It was an inspiring day of teamwork, spirit, and city pride, and we couldn’t be prouder of the effort put in by everyone involved. There’s nothing like the feeling of giving back to the place we call home, and we’re excited to continue participating in events like this.

Queen City & Iris House food drive

We partnered with Iris House for a food drive at Queen City from November 18th to 22nd. The community came together in a big way, dropping off donations to support local families in need just before the holidays. Participants earned 50 points in our Royal Family rewards program with each donation, a small token of our appreciation for their generosity. The drive was a huge success, and as Iris House continues to do vital work, we’re honored to be part of their mission.

Thanks to all who contributed, we were able to make a real impact during a time when many families could use a little extra support.

Celebrating with our customers

420 ice cream truck

April 20th was a blast at Queen City, and we can’t thank our fantastic customers enough for coming out and making it such a memorable day! We had Scream Truck parked outside, serving up delicious ice cream to keep everyone cool and satisfied. It’s the perfect treat for a day of celebrating and enjoying the best of what cannabis has to offer.

It was our way of saying thank you to all of you for being a part of the Queen City family,  whether you enjoyed your favorite flavor or chatting with our team about the plant. The vibes were high, and the energy was contagious.

Free Cone Day with our neighbors at Dairy Queen

We’re starting to think we might be a little obsessed with ice cream… but can you blame us? Free Cone Day on March 19th at Dairy Queen was the perfect way to welcome spring, and our Queen City Crew had a blast customizing cones with all the dips, sprinkles, and toppings we could fit on! We treated ourselves and our neighbors to something sweet and had a blast doing it.

Pride & Iris House Inc

We wrapped up Pride Month by partnering with Iris House Inc. of Plainfield for an unforgettable event on June 29th. The day was filled with joy, education, and surprises, including a fantastic drag performance. The energy was electric as we celebrated love, diversity, and community. We also got the chance to connect with guests, learn more about the incredible work Iris House is doing, and enjoy some delicious food!

A huge thank you to Crystal from Iris House and Jetty Extracts for supplying awesome goodies for the gift bags.

One Year Of Queen City celebration

We celebrated Queen City’s first anniversary on September 7th, and what an unforgettable day it was! The atmosphere was filled with excitement and laughter as we marked our first year in business, filled with growth, connection, and good times. We started the festivities with Scream Truck, serving up sweet, delicious ice cream that kept everyone cool while enjoying the fun. In the afternoon, Jon Frank hosted a dab education session, where our guests learned all about concentrates and gained valuable insights from one of Plainfield’s most respected cannabis figures.

As the day continued, our talented friend EXOTIC from Garden Greens live-painted a stunning graffiti-style QCR playing card that now proudly hangs in-store as a tribute to our first year. DJ Troy brought the beats to keep the energy high, setting the soundtrack for our anniversary celebration.

CropTober

CropTober was a smashing success, and we’re still buzzing from the energy you all brought to the celebration. The Halloween festivities were filled with treats, trick-or-treat specials, and plenty of fun. Our local partners, Cozz Coffee and Duck Donuts, fueled everyone with fantastic drinks and fresh deserts.

We’re so grateful to our Queen City family for making this event one to remember. From costumes to candy, you brought the spirit of CropTober to life, and we couldn’t have done it without you.

Terpmasters with Clade 9

We had an incredible time at the Clade 9 Terpmasters event on October 10th. Hosted at the stunning Lotus Rooftop in Passaic, it was an evening full of good vibes, great people, and the freshest strains. Cannabis enthusiasts from all walks of life came together to sample top-tier products, exchange knowledge, and celebrate the culture of cannabis. The atmosphere was relaxed yet buzzing with laughter and new discoveries. If you missed out on this one, don’t worry—there’s plenty more coming your way in the new year.

Popups with NJ’s hottest brands

Queen City has hosted a series of exciting pop-up events over the past year featuring some of New Jersey’s hottest cannabis brands. These include collaborations with Select, Airo, Loud Labs, and Grӧn, as well as Clade 9, Camino, Crops, Timeless, Sussex, and Bango. Other notable events featured Legend, Garden Greens, and Wana, alongside Bango, Jetty Extracts, Miss Grass, and Lily Extracts. Queen City also partnered with Botanist, Verano, and more for some standout popups, bringing a diverse range of products and experiences to our customers.

Reflecting on a year of impact and celebration

As we look back on a year filled with love, laughter, and learning, we’re filled with gratitude for every person who showed up, supported, and made these experiences special. It’s clear that Queen City is more than just a dispensary — it’s a hub for connection, culture, and community in our favorite city. We’re excited to keep the momentum going in the year ahead, and we can’t wait to continue growing with all of you! Thank you for being a part of the journey!
